Ephesians 1:14 TPT
He is given to use like an engagement ring is given to a bride, as the first installment of what’s coming! He is our hope-promise of a future inheritance which seals us until we have all of redemption’s promises and experience complete freedom–all for the supreme glory and honor of God!”
This hit me like a ton of bricks the other day. Let’s unpack this a bit shall we?
Holy spirit is our engagement ring
If you read the context of this scripture, it’s referring to the Holy Spirit, the third member of the trinity, who unfortunately, often gets overlooked. He is our promise of what is to come. You may be wondering, wait, what does that mean? Think of it like a tangible engagement ring.
The Celebration and Flood of love
When people see it they oooh and ahhh and ask all about the man who proposed. They ask for all the details about how he did it. Was it super planned or more spontaneous? Did it involve a lot of friends and family or just an intimate experience for the two of you? And of course they look at the ring. The symbol of what is to come. Not only a beautiful wedding day but a lifetime with their name, a new identity as Mrs. ______. Holy Spirit is our future promise of what is to come in eternity with Jesus. It’s God’s deposit for us!
Let me ask you a question, and I hope that it hits you deep as it did for me. We don’t hide our new and beautiful engagement ring, so why do we hide the Holy Spirit? Why do we stand in the way of what he has intended to do? Why do we have moments of shame or fear of other’s opinions of our “ring”? I’m saddened to see that the church as a whole has really lost that glimmer of the Holy Spirit’s presence. Some have continued on, despite what society may say and though there are extremes, I feel that the Holy Spirit doesn’t deserve to be hidden. He offers freedom and joy when you allow him to take control. That freedom is tangible when it’s applied to your life. When I say take control, He isn’t going to do anything crazy or take weird control of your body and make you do things that aren’t good. It’s more of yielding of control and trusting Him with your thoughts, and daily actions. He is the version of Jesus that we get to experience on a greater scale!
How are you hiding the Holy Spirit today? Maybe it’s intentional or not. Maybe you don’t even know what it’s like to experience the power of the Holy Spirit. My prayer for you is that the desire for him would overwhelm you, completely cover any desire you have for anything else. His presence is what we were created to experience.
So, flaunt that ring! Allow it to shine and shine brightly. Let it be, like an engagement ring, a conversation starter that shows the lost who your groom, Jesus is.
If you’re looking for something to look forward to or lacking purpose or potential, this is the time to step into that breakthrough. Jesus is our living hope and the Holy Spirit wants you and everyone around you to see that. Whether you’re engaged yet or not, you have the ability to understand and grasp the concept. And if you’re in the waiting season, trust God, he is faithful and sees your heart. That is a conversation for another day. For now, maybe go get a ring you can wear that reminds you of his presence, his promise.
I hope you are blessed. I pray that his presence would become the deepest desire of your heart. He is worthy of all admiration and awe. And I’d say his proposal was the greatest of all time, hands-down. He offered something even an earthly love couldn’t, life eternal with Him! Wow!
