From Tonka trucks and race cars to Spider-man and hulk.
These are the things that go through my nephew’s mind. The excitement of a new toy and something different to play with is a joy to watch. There are always those moments of begging and crying for that attention and wanting his aunt to play trains with him. I sensed the desire for affection and quality time in that.
Even at 3 years old, he longs to be loved, by his parents, grandparents, but ultimately… God.
That deposit inside of him was placed there by a loving father that wants nothing more than to spend time with his children. But sometimes we try to find our love, appreciation, and approval of other things. For now, we’ll call them toys. I mean sure batman and robin’s arms can move and they make cool sounds when you fight with them. And of course, those trains can link together and form one long object. But the one toy that differs from the rest is Lego’s.
I know I know, it probably seems like I’m just bragging about how cool the Lego movie was. But I hope you see that it’s not my point here.
As we seek for satisfaction in worldly things, whether it be relationships, drugs. We find very quickly that those things or toys aren’t as cool as we thought they would be. And we desire the next cool toy that comes out because we aren’t satisfied with what we already have.
Lego’s could represent our relationship with God. There are always new things to learn with them. And many ways to build new things. When you surrender to The Lord and his will, he begins to build in you new things that you have never thought imaginable. And think about how many Lego sets there are out there. Infinite possibilities of what you can build. And God wants to develop and build you up and remodel what you thought your life should look like. If you should go to that school, get that job, or marry that person. His plans are so much greater than ours. And he wants to help us all along the way!
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
1 Peter 2:4-5
And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is a choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
